U.S. Confirms Second Case of Ebola in Dallas

A health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has officially been confirmed as the second person diagnosed with Ebola on U.S. soil. For full article click here. The patient is a female nurse who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan(the first Ebola diagnosis in the U.S., now deceased) during the second time at the Dallas hospital. She along with other medical professionals who were providing Duncan's treatment observed proper protective protocols. The most rigid protocols are useless if they are even breached once. Infection of healthcare workers is usually the result of a small lapse of the rules. Every time some one is in contact with an Ebola Patient they have to remember that they have been in contact with death itself. Medical professionals need to remain vigilant to prevent transmission. This is not a disease that can be underestimated. Another person who has been in contact with the infected nurse has been placed in isolation for observation. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the nurse and the person in isolation. Let us all pray that this will be the last Ebola case diagnosed in the U.S.
We as a world should hope for the best outcome, but be prepared for the worst case scenario. There is currently no official cure for Ebola. All the drugs that are being used are experimental, and they are all in extremely limited supply. Currently no Ebola treatment has gone through proper clinical trials. It could be months or even years before we have an official cure for this disease. The current Ebola outbreak has about a 50% mortality rate. The new infection in Dallas marks yet another defeat in the war against Ebola. The only thing that can save you from this often fatal hemorrhagic fever is your own immune system.
